NOV 1857 - 03 Jan 1916) Chas. Wilke died
at his home in the town of Washburn Monday evening. Death came to
him suddenly. During the afternoon he was in usual health, and
about four o’clock he was stricken with paralysis, dying at
about eight. He was born at
Disco, Germany, Nov. 3, 1857. He came to America in 1885, and Sept.
10, 1886 was married to Henrietta Simon of Elkhorn, Wis., where
they lived for over eleven years. In Nov. 1897 they came to Clark
County and bought the farm which has been their home ever since.
Mr. Wilke was a man of the highest character, honest, industrious
and fair in all his relations with his fellow men. He was a kind
husband and father and a helpful neighbor. He leaves his wife, two
sons, and five daughters: Mrs. Frank Jahr of Granton; Charles, who
has a position at Unity; Mrs. Reinhold Pagenkopf of East Pine
Valley, Mrs. John Counsell of Grant; Arnold at home, Clara, a
senior in the Neillsville High School and Helen, aged nine years,
at home. The funeral will
be held at 12 o’clock today, Thursday.
